Meet the Instructor!
Lisa Madeline Frimberger
Hi! My name is Lisa Frimberger and I am the music teacher at Play/Music Sacramento and author of many unique music lessons books. I love learning and teaching music and music theory! Teaching beginners is one of my specialties - kids or adults - I love being able to teach someone a new skill.

Thank you and I can't wait to hear from any future students! :)

MY TEACHING STYLE
There's so much I want to say that it's hard to put it all into words!
I teach traditional style piano lessons but in very unique ways. I use my own published books - a set of 3 piano songbooks called Darkwave Nursery Rhymes (Color-method Edition available for kids), and a music theory book called the Music Theory Matrix. The piano songbooks take traditional nursery rhymes and puts them into the minor key for a scary version, which everyone loves! It also includes some funny songs that have lyrics about learning music theory; as well as some very cool pattern-based compositions that are very easy to learn, and are useful to help start learning improvising/composing. I also give out separate instructional materials that goes in a separate binder, along with any other outside sheet music. I have built up quite a collection of great sheet music.
Rhythm and the Musicolor Method:
I like to use these super awesome removable keyboard labels to label specific sets of keys all over the whole piano, and then use rhythm flashcards and chord patterns to start improvising. Using this method improvising can be done at a very age, and it's just as fun and useful for adult learning too!
EXPERIENCE:
I have been teaching piano for 10 years and have had a huge array of students of all different ages and backgrounds.
I accept students ages 3+. I have taught everywhere from age 3 to over 60.
I also have some experience with teaching children with autism.
Flashcards:
I am a big fan of flashcards! I have lots of them, some I've bought and others I made myself. I love turning rote memorization into a game to keep things fun during long lessons.
The Treasure Rewards Program
The Treasure Rewards Program is a way to make kids LOVE their music lessons! Kids earn gold coins and diamonds during lessons and save them up in a treasure box (which are all stored in the piano bench). Then at certain times the student is allowed to cash in their earned treasure for different prizes from in the treasure rewards chest.
